Gas safety FAQS

Why do we service your gas appliances?

If your gas appliances are not regularly serviced and checked, you could be at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Every year we service all gas appliances that we have installed to make sure they remain safe and are working correctly. We'll also give you a gas safety certificate once it's been checked too.

How do I make a gas servicing appointment?

As your home approaches its due date we'll write to you with an appointment time and date for a service to be completed.

It's really important for you to make this appointment. If you're not going to be in why not ask a trusted friend or family member to be there on your behalf?

If you absolutely can't make it please get in touch to let us know and we'll rearrange for a date and time that suits you.

What if I miss my appointment?

It's important we get access so we can ensure your home is safe and so we can fulfil our legal obligations as your landlord.

Because of this, if you miss a gas servicing appointment and you haven't contacted us to rearrange, we may need to charge you with a missed appointment fee to cover the cost of the Gas Safety Engineer.

In serious cases where we've been unable to make contact with you or access your home, we may decide to take legal action.

What do I do if I smell gas?

If you're worried about your gas supply or you suspect a leak, get in touch with the National Grid but make sure to leave the area before using your mobile phone.

If you smell gas, make sure you:

  • Put out all naked flames
  • Turn off the gas supply (in most cases this is next to your gas meter)
  • Do not switch on any appliances, lights, doorbells, or mobile phones
  • Open all doors and windows
  • Check to see if your appliances have been turned on accidentally
  • Check to see if any pilot lights have gone out
  • Leave the property calmly and tell your neighbours
How can I stay safe at home?
  • Don't use a gas appliance if you think it isn't working properly
  • Never cover or block convection air vents
  • Don't block or cover any outside flues
  • Never sleep in the same room as a gas fire
  • Get in touch if you're thinking of installing a gas appliance in your home
